Zinnia Seeds – Pastel Mix

A mix of soft, pastel-colored blooms, collected from our zinnia breeding project patch.  Packet size: .2 ounces (25-35 seeeds)

A portion of the proceeds from these seeds will go to Dawn Creek Farm as a royalty, to support their ongoing work to develop new, beautiful flowers.

Beginning with a packet of seeds from the Dawn Creek Farm zinnia mix four years ago, we’ve been working on refining a mix of pastel-colored zinnias for our farm.  These seeds are the culmination of three growing seasons’ worth of breeding effort.  We have grown these zinnias in isolation from other zinnias, and left them to be open-pollinated by the bees & other insect friends.  We’ve culled plants with more brightly-colored flowers, and prioritized double and semi-double flowers in our seed-saving.  All seeds have been hand-collected and hand-sorted.

This mix is still very varied in terms of the flower forms and colors it contains.  In last year’s generation, we observed a vast majority of plants that bloomed in the soft colors we were aiming for!  We are hoping this fourth generation of seeds will be even more tailored.  Expect to see soft pinks, light lilac, pale peach, and cream tones.  However, genetics are a statistics game, so don’t be surprised if your packet of seeds produces a more brightly-colored plant or two.

Zinnia seeds will begin shipping in the next two weeks–unless you opt to combine them with your dahlia tuber order; in that case, they will ship when tubers are ready.

NOTE: if you have already ordered dahlia tubers, and would like your zinnia seeds to ship together with your tubers, please select “Local Pickup” as your shipping option, and write a note in the “Order Notes” section with your dahlia tuber order number.  This option to combine shipping will only be available until April 1.

Please see our blog for detailed growing information about zinnias.
